As of today, February 5th, we've had 1 month to settle into life here in Korea. We now have a bank account, a home, jobs, a routine, etc. Just this morning I was talking to the Lord about everything and praying that His purposes be fulfilled and that He give us His vision for our time here. He has been so gracious to give us weeks to settle and become somewhat accustomed to life here, but we know that He has called us here for a specific reason.
Tonight He answered my prayer for vision. We ended up meeting with Kidoong and his family at a Chinese restaurant for dinner. We had a powerful time hearing all about the doors God has recently opened in Mongolia and China. We also discussed our roles here and how we can help to strengthen and under-gird the Korean church.
God very clearly told us to come here. We understand that we are supporting God's work and seeing Him bring the Gospel into places where it is illegal to even crack open a Bible. One of the ways we do this is by helping to equip and train young adults in both the things of God and the English language. This group is composed of Korean young adults who will take the Gospel to the nations. In addition to this we will help create curriculum to teach English and the Gospel to children to be used here and in other nations, especially China and Mongolia where discipleship resources are scarce.
Barry and our pastor will visit towns in China and Mongolia in the Spring. We will then lead a U.S. team in the summer to work in Korea and China or Mongolia (probably China.) We will follow the Lord for the next steps! Please pray for us.
Why China? I'm sure there are many reasons, but one I know of is that the Gospel is basically outlawed there and billions of people have never even heard of Jesus and the fact that He came to the earth to reconcile them to God. It is apparent by the amazing doors God is opening that He is committed to taking His word to these people. We are so excited to see how He is working and we are humbled and blessed to have the privilege of watching and supporting this work.
In terms of everyday life, today I worked at the school. The English Teachers' office has been moved so I'm adjusting to a new work space. Barry and the kids worked on homeschool and then exchanged Will's Nikes (a gift for his birthday) for a bigger size and then this evening we shared a meal in our home with a fun multi-national crew. We had a gal from Japan, a gal from Mongolia, a Korea couple who had served as missionaries to Mongolia and then two Korean KidsWorship members. We had a lovely time together. We served them pasta, bread, fruit, coffee and dessert (American-style).
We're still dealing with some business type details. We'll get Barry, Sam's and Will's immigration cards tomorrow. Hopefully, by the end of the week we'll have cell phones and then we'll leave next Monday for Europe (Germany, Switzerland and France.) The super-cold weather will be back in Seoul on Friday so it won't hurt my feelings in the least to leave the country for a bit ;) So, that's that!
